My Personal Life Story July 20, 2007
Posted by admin in : Life story , 2commentsThis is the first time I am sharing my personal life story. I finished my B.sc Math by 1996 May.
Not a Gold medalist. But Passed with a decent First class. Not much of knowledge about what do further. I decided to join sales. Don’t ask me why I chose to go for sales. I just believed I can do well in sales.
I joined a company which handles the distribution for Godrej Telephones. They are the distributors for
whole of Tamilnadu except for Chennai. That time I didn’t know the value of my position. I was the channel Executive for the entire area. I am sure people who are in sales will appreciate that being the first job in sales the responsibility was quite big. But do you know what my salary was? It was Rs.900. But the learning was Amazing. That was my imprinting age of sales. I consciously modeled so many people whom I know and doing well in sales ,though I don’t know about modeling ( NLP !!!!!).
My biggest achievement there was I appointed distributors in Trichy , Thanjore , Kumbakonam ,Nagai, Madurai , Tirunelveli , Kanyakumari and you name the place in Tamilnadu ,I appointed people there. But I never felt great
That time because I thought it was just part of job. Was this feeling useful? Yes, it was one way, because if you start feeling that it was the biggest achievement, then there is a possibility that you will stop growing. If I had felt that time, it was the biggest thing I could achieve, that would have been the full stop for my growth. I always kept saying this to myself “I want to be the No 1 in guy in marketing”.
People should use my name for reference in sales. So set a target which is big.
In the year 1997, my goal was to work in Chennai. The job I was doing was no more exciting. That was the time I saw an ad in Hindu for an Opening in BPL. I applied for it and was selected. I got Rs.5000 from my dad to come to Chennai.
I came to Chennai with few addresses( of my friends and relatives) in my hand. I needed to find a place to stay and take care of expenses for the first month with that Rs.5000. I was able to manage with Rs.5000 by shifting from place to place throughout that month. Then I got my first salary and found a place to stay for rental and etc…. But the point is if I felt I had sacrificed my comfort, I would not have been where I am today. I always said I want achieve something big in my life and never wanted to compromise on small things.
Fine, My Goal in BPL was to be No1 sales person, I achieved it with in 4 months time. I was awarded as a Best sales Executive of that year. I was promoted as Team leader even before my probation period was over. Within next 3 months I was again promoted as a Team Manager because of the performance. I started earning in 5 digits. Then I was thinking what to do next.
Guess what …….
Wait for my next post. This Blog will be more interactive and you get answer for all your queries on selling. So keep writing more comments so that I will keep sharing more….
